Hello, Was wondering what other people out there paid for informix dynamic server 7.3... Basically, i wanted to know if they had a web server licensing schem like microsoft. or ibm's db2 (per cpu license). and would the licenses be transferable if I decided to move from let's say windows nt informix dynamic server -> solaris 2.X informix dynamic server or would that require new licensing? vice versa for linux informix dynamic server 7.3X -> solaris 2.X informix dynamic server.. There really aren't alot of pricing info on the informix site... :(
Informix pricing is based on the host's size or power classification so if you transfer the license to another host in the same class no problem. To upgrade the server to a larger class machine, like a PC to a Sun E450 or from a Sun E450 to an E1000 you would have to pay the difference in the cost of product and maintenance. All this assumes that you have a current maintenance agreement it is maintenance that provides upgrade rights, otherwise any change is a new purchase. Best thing, call Menlo and get them to have a sales person call you back. Every Informix sales office has an in-house sales rep in Menlo to handle questions like this that outside sales staff are less than responsive to. Art S. Kagel "George Henry C.
