Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

One of our clients has bought IDS 9.40 for Linux, and is trying to install
it on Slackware 9.1. They are having installation and running problems, but
are being told by IBM Tech Support UK that they won't help as Slackware is
not on the new list of supported versions as at
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/informix/linux/ids.html.
This could well be true, but do they have a realistic chance of getting it
to work on Slackware anyway? Or, as per the thread last week, are the only
viable options now SuSE, RH and United?
thanks

The only problem (!) I've had with installing Informix in Slackware 9.1
was the distribution; i.e., RPMs or CPIOs that I couldn't strip apart
conveniently. With RPMs I use Slackware's rpm2tgz utility to convert to
something usable. With CPIOs I found that taking them apart on a Solaris
machine was the best way (for some reason IBMs CPIO files aren't
recoverable on a non-System V system in my experience). Now, I realize
that fooling around with Solaris may not be the wisest, but it did the
job for me where the GNU cpio program wouldn't -- maybe somebody else
has had better luck with that that I.
