Once upon a time (shall we say 1991?), it was possible to link ESQL/C and C-ISAM into the same program without problems. Once upon another time (shall we say 1997, as a guesstimate for when the 7.20 products were released -- though the problem may have started earlier than that), it was no longer possible to link both C-ISAM and ESQL/C into the same application. This is a pain for all concerned, especially if you happened to be using C-ISAM in a custom ACE or Perform runner, or in an I4GL program (yes, a few systems need to do that!). On Solaris 7, it is possible to link C-ISAM 7.24 with ESQL/C 7.24 with the only warnings being that some functions are doubly defined (except that one definition of the pair isn't formally marked as a function, so the errors are a little odd). However, you run into bigger problems with a CSDK version of ESQL/C -- some objects have different sizes. Even though the program links, I would assume that some things would go horribly wrong if the program was run. This is something which might be fixed in a hypothetical 7.26 release of C-ISAM (7.25 exists; it gets around 2 GB file size limits on platforms where this can be done). -- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (Jonathan.Leffler@Informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v1.00.PC1 -- http://www.perl.com/CPAN "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"
