It depends on what you mean by 'run on 4.x Informix', and what connectivity
methods you want to use.
If your ESQL/C code does not make any use of features that are available in
5.x and not in 4.x, then you can probably manage to run the 5.x code against
the 4.x engine without problems. You may have to use a network connection
to get at the 4.x engine, but you should be able to do it.
Otherwise, you'll need to recompile without any 5.x features, using a separate
installation of 4.x, though it can be on the same machine as the 5.x installation,
provided that $INFORMIXDIR is different. You can have multiple Informix directories
on your machine -- I have 6 regular installations and an extra half-dozen partially
built versions, and another 2 dozen which are available on an automounted NFS file system
which I don't usually use.

}Hi
}
}We are using Informix online 5.x on AIX 3.2.5. We use esql/c 5.x for
}developing our frontend [using curses libraries].
}
}All our projects are supposed to run on Informix 5.x. Some of the modules in
}these projects needs to be run on 4.x Informix. Is there any way by which we
}can compile our source which will be compatible to 4.x, instead of loading
}4.x on another server ?
}
}Thanks in advance
