Is it really an :implementation of ODBC, or the SAG/CLI? The first version of Informix CLI was done by Visigenic. They claimed their Unix implementation was an implementation of ODBC on Unix. This product has later been delivered by Intersolv, but I think they got the Unix implementation via an agreement with Visigenic. ODBC is supposed to be an implementation of the ANSI/CLI standard which as I have understood it, is the same as the SAG/CLI just taken over by ANSI and made a part of the full SQL standard. ODBC does deviate some from the ANSI/CLI. I am not sure if this is only extensions or if some of the core functions are also different. As I haven't had the need for these products on Unix I haven't studied the issues of what differences there may be between them all. Here's from OpenLinks web site: "UDBC is an ODBC/SAG CLI Compatibility Layer". It's supposed to be compatible with other ODBC and ANSI/CLI (SAG/CLI) implementations on Unix and other platforms. The vendors should be able to give definite information simply. : :>I haven't tested or used (and never expect to do so) any of these, so :>I don't know how well they perform. : : :--------- :Engineers believe that the equations approximate reality. :Physicists believe that reality approximates the equations. :Mathematicians never make the connection.
