It's still >the "Tools, Engine, Network" flaw in the install scripts. This isn't true with current product (7.2x or newer servers), to my knowledge. First of all, Informix doesn't have separate "network" products anymore. Secondly, no current tool has (meaningful) files in common with current server products, so there's no overwrite issue like there had been in the past. It was never a flaw in the install *scripts* per se -- it was a "flaw" in the *installation model* of sharing files where possible, which was motivated by disk space savings. This was fine back when product lines were all released together, but that hasn't been the case since 4.00. >Of course if he where using the most current products he wouldn't have >to upgrade :-), but he might still want to load a new tool that wasn't >there when the engine was first loaded. And if he has 7.2x servers, he can. I've done so many times, intermixing 7.2 SE, OnLine DSA, and ESQLs with NewEra 3.X variants. No need to reinstall servers after replacing/adding NewEra variants, for example. Now, some RELATED issues are still "flawed" by your definiton: you can't necessarily run a given install script multiple times without reloading media (why would one want to?), and you can't intermix NewEra and ISQL/I4GL, for example (the latter being a battle I fought and lost). >Nils.Myklebust@idg.no >NM Data AS, P.O.Box 9090 Gronland, N-0133 Oslo, Norway >My opinions are those of my company >The Informix FAQ is at http://www.iiug.org -- Alan Denney yosemite@netcom.com aland@informix.com "... my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." -- John F.
