HPUX 11.x INFORMIX-OnLine Version 7.23.UC11 The level 0 archives are run daily. What performance or data risks are we taking? Opinions? Rob
From my experience, very little. For you, I would judge by the frequency with which the integrity checks have uncovered problems. If you regularly find a problem during some daily check say once a month then checking once a week will not significantly impact reliability. If problems are found rarely than you are likely safe regardless. BTW 7.23 is not only out of support and rather outdated, it's feature poor and slow compared to 7.31 or 9.40/10.xx. You should consider upgrading. Art S. Kagel ----- Original Message ----- From: R.... Hi,
it depends on how many data positions are modified in the period and if you
have the suspect that data gets inconsistent. (maybe from a previous problem
you might have had).
Since you have a very outdated version of IDS, you cannot expect help from
outside if your data gets incosistent. In this case, you have to recover
your backup. This is daily so you should be able to restore from a near
timepoint just in case. Also, I recommend to do a continuous log-backup to
prevent data loss.
In this outdated version, it is not possible to do a time-based restore (up
to 12:24 ...), so it is likely that on a restore try, a possible
inconsistency problem gets restored again.
Maybe you should consider to upgrade min. to 7.31 because of stability and
of course external support (better 9.40 or 10.0).
Performance should not be changed just by the validations, but of course by
update statistics, which you should perform somewhere between daily and
weekly, depending on your amount of data rows changed within this period.
