Re: is Visual C++ really needed???

No. But you have to be a little creative in how you run the compile, and only use P-Code. What you need to do depends on your version of NewEra. [2.x] Just write a file called make.bat and insert statements like: fglp fred.4gl fglp barney.4gl copy /b fred.4go + barney.4go app.4gi The type "make" at a dos prompt. [3.x] Generate the makefile as normal using the app builder, then pull out the fglp32 lines you need (they have flags to populate the repository which you may want to keep) and pop them in a .bat file as above and run it. This is a very brief description, and some trial and error is involved, the big question is : "Can I afford a couple of days time messing about with .bat files when I could spend a few hundred bucks and get the C++ compiler?"
