Role Separation

Sorry if this question is silly but....We're new to Dynamic Server. I'm installing Dynamic Server 7.3 on SCO 5.0.5 Is there a major benefit to Role Separation being turned on or am I just adding overhead and confusion for the DBA's (human) The documentation I have is lacking any detailed description, pros or cons.
