All I have learned has been taken from memory dumps and process listings while running the Oracle server (I am not Oracle certified). Never the less, though my description is obviously faulty this is the symptom I have observed. My best guess of what was happening inside Oracle being incorrect, perhaps you could come up with another explanation.
