I rebuilt my databases (export from 7.3; import into 9.2), and generally
dbimports seem to take a little longer on 9.2. Perhaps 20% longer on
essentially identical hardware. I did not do anything resembling a competent
benchmark; those are just wall clock times.
On the other hand, queries of some size seem to be running faster. Sometimes
much faster; 2 seconds vs 5 seconds, for example. I have a report that
never finished on 7.3 Linux (it would run on very large AIX servers), and it
now finishes in about 30 seconds on 9.2 Linux. It's not UPDATE STATISTICS;
I did UPDATE STATISTICS on 7.3.
As I said, I didn't try to do a competent benchmark, so your mileage
will vary. Seems like it's worth a look though.
