I'm not sure whether 5.0 supports shared libs. We had a 7.10 version on FTX (Stratus SVR4) that, although its own libaries were *.so (some of them anyway), could not support compiling the apps into shared libs. We got an upgrade to 7.12 that solved the problem. I was told that full support of shared libraries were not included until 7.12. This info may or may not be right. My Stratus tech support guru looked at the Informix libraries and said that they had not been linked with the "-K PIC" options, which was the problem. Who knows? It works now. Good luck.
