Re: Kill sqlexec and fglgo process.

Do *NOT* kill the sqlexec processes -- that will cause serious problems sooner or later, and probably sooner rather than later. You've been warned! By all means kill the fglgo processes, as viciously as necessary, which may well mean using kill -9 (SIGKILL) though it is good practice to try other, less vicious, signals first -- INT, QUIT, HUP, TERM, PIPE (2, 3, 1, 15, 13) spring to mind as good ones to try. Once the front-end (fglgo) dies, the engine (sqlexec) should die of natural causes, cleaning up properly before it goes. A shell script to do the cleanup work is not entirely trivial as it usually has to parse the output from the ps(1) command, and that varies from system to system. The gist of the command is: # Signal numbers are for INT, QUIT, HUP, TERM, PIPE, KILL! for sig in 2 3 1 15 13 9 do plist=`ps -al | filter_out_unattached_fglgo_processes_only` if [ -z "$plist" ] ; then break; fi kill -$sig $plist sleep 2 done The hard bit is filter_out_unattached_fglgo_processes_only, and you can cut down the labour on System V machines by using "ps -ef" the first time and "ps -fp \\`echo $plist | sed 's/ /,/g'\\`" thereafter.
