Actually I have an nroff look like. My problem was to be able to generate letters with paragraph indentation, blocked text, underline, bold, etc. I also want to be able to split a batch of letters and direct them to separate printers in order to speed processing. (Semi-legal letter quality documents with 4 carbons. Regular daisy wheel type printers would only do the job right.) The solution was to write nroff macros that would format the document in a specific way. The macros provided the means of specifing individual data and what to do with it. What I acutally ended up with was a report writer that was programmed using nroff macros. When nroff is run macros pick up the data and do the custom formatting . .SS for example specifies various switches that determine sentences to be included in the document.
