understanding BEGIN WORK
Posted in 2000
I'm trying to find out if BEGIN WORK can help me with my routines. I'm programing web pages to load and read data from an informix 7.30 server. I'm using PHP4, and at the moment I've a problem with the loading pages. This is kind of an existencial problem ( :-) ). The loading takes place from 6 am. to 9 am., and I don't want to have people reading data that is have done. I know I could do this at a programing stage, but I guess (not even think ;-) ) that informix has the power to do for me. So I found this BEGIN WORK, which looked like the thing I was looking for. but the syntax manual says things that I don't quite understand. It says things about the database server sending an error if I issue the BEGIN WORK statement while I'm in a transaction. If someone is reading something from the database, and at the same time the person in charge of loading data is about to work, what would happen? Will I get an error? And if not, will the table be locked until I commit the work? Thanks. -- "And I'm happy, because you make me feel good, about me." - Melvin Udall ----------------------------------------------------------------- Mart'n Marqu's email: martin@math.unl.edu.ar Santa Fe - Argentina http://math.unl.edu.ar/~martin/ Administrador de sistemas en math.unl.edu.ar -----------------------------------------------------------------
