KAIO: out of OS resources

we are on 11.7.fc5 on AIX 6.1 i have seen posts on this topic before but they are pretty old. the message in the log is : KAIO: out of OS resources, errno = 11, pid = 14090390 it used to be that the variable IFMX_HPKAIO_NUM_REQ was a default of 1000 and it was suggested to bump that up - is that still the case? the other question in the old post was "is there an impact on performance when this message shows up?" Does it just hand the work off to AIO threads if KAIO runs out of resources? thanks tom
The variable you mention is AFAIK for HP-UX. For AIX please check: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21083472 In any case, my experience tells me that many times this can be used as an indicator that some query is badly written, or with a bad query plan. If possible try to check what's running/hot at that moment. Hi Tom , I work with 11.50over AIX 6.1 . We get this message only on the firsts days where the databaseis restarted (or the O.S, I not sure now) , which we do with low frequency (one, two , three times on year). AIX 6.1 is auto tunable , so I consider this messages appear on the firsts days normally, where the AIX still reconfiguring itself , then no more message should appear. This approach appear work so far here, after one or two weeks working with regular workload , this message no appear anymore for us. This technoteis the newestabout this subject. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21155189 They will not "help" , because theoretically , you have nothing to do. If you constantly restart your database or O.S. then follow the technote what Fernando mentioned probably is the recommended.
