I prefer RCS/CVS. JL: I'd use RCS too, if only because I'd have to be convinced that the SCCS is safe for the Year 2000. RCS uses 4 digits for the year, so it is fine. SCCS uses 2 digits. The Open Unix specification specifies how 2-digit years are to be handled, but many versions of SCCS do not cope with a current date in the year 2000 or beyond. And if the archived code is to be moved to any arbitrary system, then I'd far rather use RCS than take the risk with SCCS. As a for instance, the original SCCS released with Solaris 2.5.1 was not Y2K safe. Sun released a patch last year for it, but I know that many sites (such as this one) have not installed it yet. And not every manufacturer has necessarily released a fix yet. So, be careful with SCCS. I prefer SCCS to RCS for many purposes, but until SCCS and Y2K are safely resolved, RCS is the safer choice (which is why I converted to RCS last year).
