Oh, BTW. After killing an HPL job you might just want to go out and check
for shared memory segments left lying around. Try ipcs and ipcrm.

Yes Virginia, HPL does not 'die' cleanly. Think about it - when you
interrupt the job your sending a signal to the process through the ipload
interface. The process isn't listening to the ipload interface anymore,
it's too busy loading data. The best approach is to only load a subset of
rows (50-100) until you know that you've got the job right - then remove
the row count restrcition and let it go whole hog.
But then how DO you kill an HPL job. Find the parent process (ps -ef |
grep onpload - look for the one owned by init (pid=1)) and kill -15 it.
How to unlock it? Within the ipload interface 'connect' to the job - it
will take about a minute for it to come back and say that it can't AT WHICH
POINT IT WILL UNLOCK THE JOB. Failing that you can manually go into the
onpload tables and update the lock_flag. I can't remember how many tables
are in question - at least the session table, but you may also have to
unlock the map, the format and so on - depending on the status. A format,
for example, would not normally be locked unless the ipload interface died
on it.

Dear Friends,
Actually i am using Informix On-Line DSA 7.23.FC1 on
DEC Alpha 8400 server.
I faced a killer problem with HPL.
After preparing the job in HPL when i say run(for
LOAD) and if there is any thing wrong with data or
whatever, if job need to be interrupted at that stage,
1. It does not interrupt
2. By any chance if you are able to break the job,
and then again try to run the same job, it will say
in STATUS column that job is already running. So you
can not use that job again.
It happens with me couple of time. It's really a
killer for me.
I will highly appreciate for the Ix Gurus for their
efforts for the same.
Regards
Sanjeev
