Both shared memory and semaphore kernel parameters should be set specifically for your environment. The release notes only state what worked for the engineering team; similarly, anyone else on this newsgroup will be able to tell you what worked for them, but neither of these will necessarily fit your needs. > We experienced an "Assertion Error" last week and I have yet to hear from the > hotline on the possible cause. If your parameters weren't set high enough, chances are OnLine wouldn't have initialized, or else some users just wouldn't be able to get on. It might be more useful for you to show us what error you got, and see if anyone here has seen it before, or has any other suggestions.
