Well, what can you expect when you have to loop through a string
character by character, re-writing it as you go ;-)
Now I'm going to start sounding like an advertising pitchman, but you
REALLY should check out my Informix FAQ for this one. It's not simply a
question of using an UPPER() function (which I believe IS covered in the
"official" FAQ) -- there are big performance considerations, *even* if
you have 7.3 and its built-in UPPER function. Go to
