OnLine Problem

HI All,
We experience sudden crash of our Informix Instances.
We run several instances at the same time. One C program access a number of
them making one of them crash randomly. The log generated shows a Internal
Bus Error problem forcing Online to shutdown.
Here is an extract of the dump generated.
12:32:06 Assert Failed: Internal Error - Bus Error
12:32:06 Who: Session(6, csstest@hcs1, 29423, -1001958512)
Thread(36, srvinfx, c4451cd8, 1)
12:32:06 Results: OnLine must abort
12:32:06 Action: Reinitialize shared memory
12:32:06 See Also: /tmp/af.24dab5, shmem.24dab5.0
12:32:06 Stack for thread: 36 srvinfx
The same C program on another box works well so we think it is an Informix
or Unix configuration problem...but so far we haven't found anything
obvious.
Any clue ?
Thanks
Vincent
Assert failures are usually Informix problems, not application or UNIX
problems. Basically an Informix developer has put an assert statement in the
code, that catches an "impossible" situation.. If you have a support contract,
call Informix, discuss, email them the log and the /tmp/af.24dab5 file. Also
you don't have to dump the shared memory since it is useless in analyzing the
problem - and it can drive your file system out of space. To turn it off look
in the onconfig file. Also, someone else in this group may have more
information about this bug.

VERSIONS? Version and platform information on both boxes is essential
for anyone to help you. For example: Known bug in 7.24UC7 if a process
accesses databases on multiple servers through a connection to one of
the servers one of the servers can crash (separate connections to all
servers seems to be OK). Is this the bug you are hitting? I do not
know since I do not know your versions!
Art S. Kagel
Vince, are these the only assert failure message in the logs or
did you see a segmentation fault prior to this, if you are on a
version lower than 7.24.UC5 you most definetly hit bug# 84642,
which is fixed in 7.24.UC5. The version of your server will help
us trace the problem.
