rootdbs size?

What would be a reasonable size for rootdbs on a machine with about 4.5 gigs of data in a separate database. Our rootdbs is currently 75000kb I was shown a config file from another machine like ours(IBM F50) Their rootdbs was much larger 992000kb. These are supposed to be the same type of machines. Their database is much faster I have been told.
