I have an Informix installation on a UNIX platform. I believe it is
7.31UC4. I have a dbspace that is using multiple chunks. These
chunks are using space from a disk partition (disk partitions
are all 2GB) - the chunks have been allocated as 250000Blocks
(500Mb) - I would like to use the entire disk partition.
Question - what is the process to remove these chunks, do I need
to delete the dbspace and re-add it with the new chunks and then
after restoring the db run some sort of backup?
p.s. I'm cr*p at Informix.

Consolidating all used chunk space?

If the chunks have tables or the TABLESPACE TABLESPACE within them
(onstat -pe <dbspace_name>), then you would need to unload the data,
drop the tables, drop the dbspace, recreate the dbspace, and reload
the data. Informix restores at the chunk level, so restoring the
instance after deleting and recreating the dbspace woudn't make any
difference.

John,
Yes I'm consolidating chunks on various disk partitions.
No point using 25% of a disk partition then moving to another
partition on another disk, and eventually going back to the
first disk and using offsetting. I want to keep the set-up
as simple as possible.
I'll zap the database (using the application that uses informix)
and then drop the chunks and re-add.
