Define replication server problem

Summary

A user setting up Enterprise Replication could define the primary server (g_whrhouse) but got "unable to connect to server specified (5)" when defining the target (cdr define serv -c almwhr -S g_whrhouse g_almwhr), even though sqlhosts entries and trusted dbaccess connections worked both ways. Madison Pruet had him run xtrace (XTF_CDR_GCC/NIF) on both machines. The traces showed the clocks were over 15 minutes apart (ER refuses connections then) and, more importantly, the primary reported "servname2id: srv <g_almwhr> notfound" — the engine wasn't seeing the g_almwhr sqlhosts entry, since early 9.3 didn't reread sqlhosts after startup. Suggested fixes: sync the clocks, verify the sqlhosts file actually in use, and bounce the server. No confirmation from the poster is recorded.

Hi, All. I want set up "primary-target" replication between two servers. I setup host files, sevices file, trusted environment and sqlhost files on both systems. I test trusted environment by dbaccess. Connection by server names and group names without prompting logins and passwords on both sides are successfull. We need to see the sqlhost file used by almwhr. Also need to see the sqlhosts used by the cdr define serv command. This problem can occur because 1) the cdr utility is not able to connect to the server "-c almwhr" or 2) almwhr is not able to connect to g_whrhouse. It looks ok to me. Do you have a case open on the problem? If not, please get one open. I'd like to see the output of the following in the case. 1) execute the following on both servers as user informix. xtrace size 50000 xtrace heavy -c XTF_CDR_GCC xtrace heavy -c XTF_CDR_NIF xtrace heavy -c XTF_CDRIF_NIF xtrace on 2) then execute the cdr define server 3) After this is done, then execute the following on both servers. xtrace off xtrace fview This will display tracing information from the define server. I'd like to have this put into a file which is then put into the case. Also include the output from the message log file at the time of the failure. Where is the output of the message log file? It appears that the clocks on the two machines are more than 15 min apart. ER will not allow a connection if the clocks are that far apart.
