RE: Migrate BLOBs From 5.x to 7.3 ?
Posted in 1999
Can I avoid dbexport all together and do:
- dbschema my OL5
- create on IDS7 only for tables with BYTE columns
- run: insert into LOCALTABLE select * from REMOTETABLE@server5:owner.tablename
for tables with BYTE columns. Both server on same network.

I checked back in notes, the problems I was seeing was BYTE column but only where
a number of multiple pages were required, so about 2000 rows had to be unloaded,
deleted and reloaded by hand

It will work fine for BYTE columns. However there was a problem with
exporting TEXT columns. Newlines were not quoted and so confused the
dbimport/import which would complain about incorrect number of columns.
You can use my dbcopy to copy the data directly from engine to engine.
Another option is using onunload/onload or writing a custom ESQL/C program
to unload and load the data.
