Manage remotely IDS
Posted in 2015
Guy couldn't connect IBM Data Studio on Windows 7 to IDS 12.10 running on a BeagleBone Black (Debian). The fix was simple: his sqlhosts entry used 'localhost', so the server only listened locally — replacing it with the BeagleBone's actual IP address made the remote connection work. The thread then drifted into tooling advice: Art recommended OAT or AGS Server Studio over Data Studio (which needs DRDA, not SQLI), and Mike/Thomas explained that OAT ships only with the 32-bit Windows CSDK, that 32- and 64-bit CSDKs can coexist if installed in separate directories, and that 32-bit ODBC sources need SysWOW64\\odbcad32.exe.

Hi,
I'm trying to connect from IBM Data Studio (running on Win7 box) to IDS on my
BBB (running Debian) to 'remotely' manage my databases.
Until now I didn't succeed. Any 'special' configs I need to make on my Debian
BBB running IDS?
At this moment I have in sqlhosts:
ol_informix1210 onsoctcp localhost 9088
Thanks.
Guy
Guy,
Did you try changing the localhost reference (in sqlhosts) to the IP of your
Beaglebone?
Mike

Mike, I changed localhost into the ip-address of the host running IDS and now everything works fine. One additional question: I would like using node.js with Informix (incl. TimeSeries) on the BBB. I searched the web and found this https://github.com/ibmdb/node-ibm_db. Do you know this library? Or even better has IBM (since they are 'promoting' node-red) plans to provide their own node.js library for Informix? Thanks. Guy
IB that IBM Data Studio does not speak Informix's SQLI protocol. You'll
have to configure a DRDA connection type and use that.
Don't use Data Studio. Use either OAT or better yet AGS's Server Studio.
You can download Server Studio from the AGS web site, www.serverstudio.com.
You get a 30 day full feature license then a residual basic license
forever. The full Enterprise license is less than Data Studio anyway and
it has more Informix specific features. You also get a 30day license for
Sentinel, Server Studio's monitoring piece.

Mike, In your webcast on "Informix and IoT" I suppose OAT is running on your desktop (NOT on the BeagleBone)? Is OAT installed as part of the Informix Developer Bundle on the desktop/PC? Thanks. Guy
Guy, I'm glad that you saw the webcast! :-) Yes, I am running OAT from by Windows desktop (Windows 7 - 64 bit). I installed OAT from the Windows CSDK (32-bit). I reference Tom Beebe's earlier webcast about installing 32-bit CSDK on a 64-bit Windows machine: http://advancedatatools.com/Informix/Webcasts.html [Learning about Informix and the Open Admin Tool (OAT) By Thomas Beebe] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az1fRv1iASk Mike -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of GUY DILLEN Sent: Monday, June 01, 2015 9:59 AM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: RE: Manage remotely IDS [35206] Mike, In your webcast on "Informix and IoT" I suppose OAT is running on your desktop (NOT on the BeagleBone)? Mike, Thanks. Can I install the Informix CSDK additionally to the Informix Developer (Windows 64-bit) Bundle? I see there's also a Windows 64-bit CSDK, since you're mentioning the 32-bit version? Anyway at this moment I get an 500 error when trying downloading the CSDK from the IBM site.
Guy, I don't know about the Informix Developer Bundle, and what's included in that. As for the CSDK, unless things have changed recently, OAT is only included in the 32-bit version of CSDK. Check the link that I sent for info on installing the 32-bit CSDK on 64-bit Windows. Hi Mike, Thanks. I watched Thomas Beebes webcast on installing CSDK 32bit with OAT on Windows. Whats not clear to me: can I install the CSDK 64 bit version (needed for development purposes) BEFORE the 32 bit CSDK version? Thanks. Guy
Hi Guy, You can install both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the CSDK on Windows. I just checked and the 64bit still does not include OAT so you do need the 32bit version for that. The important thing is to install them into separate directories, which it should do by default anyway. If you do need to set up a 32bit ODBC data source you will need to use c:\\\\windows\\\\SysWOW64\\\\odbcad32.exe, the odbc administration tool in control panel will only be for 64bit drivers. One other note that I did not include in the webcast is they are now including the dll files for the PDO_Informix PHP driver on the PECL website, so if you already have apache and PHP up you can just add this in to not have to deal with the CSDK: https://pecl.php.net/package/PDO_INFORMIX On 06/01/2015 06:08 PM, GUY DILLEN wrote: > Hi Mike, > > Thanks.
