When: whenever it can Why: because it's fast What I was told on one of my courses is that it does this usually when joining larger tables, although looking through all of my own traces I pretty much always have hash joins rather than nested loop joins. I think it will use hash joins in all but the most trivial of cases. Sorry, I can't give a more detailed answer. Paul
