4GL Error -4518 / Temporary String Storage

Hello, I am trying to use a CONSTRUCT statement which exits immediately by using the EXIT CONSTRUCT within the BEFORE CONSTRUCT. This seems to be causing 4GL temporary string storage to be taken and not released. Soon after this statement I get an error: 4GL run-time error number -4518. The 4GL program cannot allocate any more space for temporary string storage. What I am trying to do is take the contents of a subset of fields in a form and "extract" the filter by using a construct statement. The user enters criteria into a ONE form, but I want to get several different filters from the form by using separate constructs. I do NOT want to user to have to press Escape. Is this incorrect syntax? Is there another way to accomplish this?
