i-4GL for windows support
Posted in 2000
Recently I migrated our application for a stand alone windows PC from i-SE 6.0 for windows to IDS7 on windows NT. The client application is written in i-4GL 4.20 for windows. A client on windows 95/98 still works together with IDS 7.0 on windows NT. However the application does not support mouse movement on Windows NT. As soon as the focus is moved to another field by the mouse the application crashes. It works fine in windows 95/98. I know that Informix does not support i-4GL 4.20 on windows anymore but our clients are still happy with the application. I regret that Informix does not support this product anymore. The answer from Informix is Dynamic 4GL. In fact we are forced by Informix to stop any development in this version and need to consider a new generation for our application. The lifecycle of the type of products in our market is about 10 years. This means that we expect that Informix supports its products also for ten years. The lifecycle of (many periferal) Informix products is much less; except for the server products (core bussines) where often an easy migration is supported. Question: Do you have a solution for my mouseproblem on Windows NT? Do you agree that products need to be supported longer by Informix? Kind regards, vanloon@wxs.nl
