Informix tech support really didn't help much, as it seemed to >me that they really were not up to speed on v6. > > > I had a similar experience last year. They sent 8 books, 1000 pages, and a tape, but in 3 weeks nobody could steer me in the right direction to set up my onconfig file correctly (they updated tbconfig file) so the study I was working on was fruitless. I later found in the machine specific release notes where I had screwed up, but it took informix 3 weeks to find my mistake and by then the project was dead. SO in a nutshell - they have 3 modes of replacing istar - shared memory, tcp-sockets, and tcp-tli(transport-level-interface). Between tli and sockets your system will only support one architectural choice, which should be referenced in your online machine-port notes in your release directory. If you choose wrong, as I did, you wont get far. And as mentioned, since informix isnt up to speed on it, it might take them an infinite amount of time to figure it out.
