re: Solaris Upgrade Tips

With regard to your Solaris upgrade: Assuming that you are migrating from SunOS, 2.3 is an improvement in many ways. However, there are some "gotchas" with the way Solaris deals with disk names and file systems which are much different than SunOs. There are no performance anomolies. In fact, I think the systems run better on Solaris due to the threading in the OS. However, you should run, as recommended, raw file systems since the fsflush daemons in Solaris can cause bottlenecks and thus safety issues with the dbspace. Raw partitions eliminate such issues by bypassing the UFS. Also, there is no such thing as rc.local anymore in Solaris. If you autostart informix (as I do), you should put these startups in the rc3 init script or init directory. (Reading rc1 init scripts remarks in /etc are remarkably good! Better than man pages!) Good luck! Any other questions, post them on the group for benefit of the users.
