You can (and should) use raw disk space whether you use kernel io or
not. Using kernel io seems to give varying results - some claim
performance gains while others say things slow down.
This is something you'll have to try for yourself. You may also want to
try the environment variable setting "IFMX_HPKAIO_VER=1" instead of
"KAIOON=1". I don't know what this does exactly but it seems to give the
best results.
