RE: Data Erased-- Please help
Posted in 2000
I am assuming that you do not have any backups, due to your onconfig
file. So...
If you haven't done anything since re-initializing, then your data is
not gone, it is simply unreachable.
There is a method for recovering it, but it is not easy, and it will
require a copy of your schema(s). If you don't have a great deal of
Informix knowledge, and the data is really important, then you might
want to bring in someone (perhaps one of your professors) to accomplish
the following.
It looks like you have followed the advise of someone, and used symbolic
links for your dbspaces. This will help.
What you need to do, is point your dbspace links to different, but
preferably identical devices somewhere else. Then rebuild your dbspaces
in the same order as originally. Next, recreate your schema. Finally
point your links back to the original dbspaces. With any luck, your
data will still be there.
This is analogous to the old standard engine trick of moving old *.dbs
and *.idx files over top of new ones.
If this database is not mission critical, it's probably not worth the
effort (and possible expense of bringing in a consultant).
Good luck.

I guess I deserved that from "Obnoxio the clown". But in my defense, I
am
just an intern, who is a sophmore in
college and started working on informix 5 weeks ago. Can someone please
tell me how to restore the data?
Thanks,
Raj
