Daylight Savings Time....
Posted in 2007
A user asked whether the 2007 US/Canada DST rule change would break datetime storage or date arithmetic in IDS 7.24 (HP-UX) and 7.31 (Linux), beyond patching the OS clock. Replies said IDS simply takes date/time from the OS, so patching the OS (and JVM/JRE if Java is used) is sufficient; IDS date arithmetic doesn't adjust for DST anyway. Links to IBM's DST alert/flash and the JTZU tool were posted, noting APARs IC50989 (IDS 10.00) and IC50990 (9.40), with no action needed for 7.3x and earlier. A follow-up question about detecting inadvertent Java procedure use went unanswered.

Given the new government regulations, I haven't seen much mention of what problems will be caused with Informix with stored datetime sensitive or datetime calculation sensitive operations. For Y2K, our Informix was quite stable, but on Feb 29th, 2000, the year to date calculations below up because of some internal calculations within Informix couldn't find Feb 29th 1999 (and didn't use Feb 28th 1999 like the other databases). As an IDS 7.24 (HP-UX 10.xx) and IDS 7.31 (Linux) shop, are there any known problems or 'fixes' other than setting the system date in UNIX and LINUX? Thanks, Larry (work) l.timmins@medmal.com
If your OS is patched (and JVM/JRE as required) then IDS will be fine Paul Watson Tel: +44 1414161772 Mob: +44 7818003457 Web: www.oninit.com Failure is not as frightening as regret. IBM has this to say so far: http://www.ibm.com/support/alerts/us/en/daylightsavingstimealert.html
Larry, DATE and DATETIME just store the current date &/or time as returned by the OS. The time calculations (ex: DATETIME(2007-03-30 10:10:10) YEAR TO SECOND + (30) UNITS DAY) do not adjust for DST now, so they are not adversely affected by the change in the start day except that several more weeks worth of calculated times will be off by an hour. 8-( Art S. We are not using Java or Java stored procs (that we know of). Will
"onstat -g prc" show any of the built-in procedures that we might
inadvertently be calling?
