Informix wont run
Posted in 2006
After a failed disk was replaced and data restored from tape on an HP-UX 11.0 box running IDS 7.31.UD6, the Informix instance wouldn't start and every on* utility returned "Unknown Error Message Number 32766". Responders agreed this is an environment issue rather than a corrupt engine: error -32766 means the product can't find its message text files because INFORMIXDIR or DBLANG is set wrongly (or $INFORMIXDIR/msg wasn't restored). They advised checking those variables, confirming the software was restored to the right location, reviewing the online log and oninit -v, and verifying the correct ontape/onbar restore was performed. No confirmation from the original poster is recorded.

we have an HP K580 running HPUX 11.0, IDS 7.31.ud6 and react2001 application. the disk drive housing the informix database failed. it was replaced and an archive tape backup was run to restore the data. the OS and application started on boot, but informix isn't running and will not run. if you run any on***** command, you get "Unknown Error Message Number 32766" all informix components appear to be in place. any suggestions? thanks!
Kevin
How are you actuall archiving the instance, ontape or onbar? Have you
run the correct restore (after restoring the OS and INFORMIXDIR).
32766 seems to indicate an environment problem with INFORMIXDIR or DBLANG.
Anything in the online log? Does oninit -v offer anything significant?

Well, that suggest that an environment variable isn't set. INFORMIXDIR usually. -- Bye now, Obnoxio "I don't read newspapers anymore except the local rag which I do weekly to cheer myself trying to see if anyone I hate has been stabbed." -- Horribilis XVI -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is believed to be clean.

Check your environment.... [informix@husky informix]$ finderr 32766 -32766 Unknown error message number. The software product cannot find the error message text files. Either the INFORMIXDIR or DBLANG environment variable is set incorrectly. Have you checked the environment (variable INFORMIXDIR) and if the software ist installed/restored in that place?
