Good idea, I can certainly use the nvl function in this way. Somebody suggest me to use "if g_ideodt is null" and this is good I tried unfortunately "if ... = null" ... on a monday morning. The nvl() I can use elsewhere Thanks, Yves -----Original Message----- From: preetinder.dhaliwal@dhl.com [mailto:preetinder.dhaliwal@dhl.com] Sent: maandag 6 oktober 2003 20:56 To: Support Inf.... Cc: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: dbinfo("sqlca.sqlerrd2") [1992] You can use nvl(min(nvl(colname,defvalue)),defval2) , this way you can put ur defvalue to a value which is never used in ur application and then check for this and can find out from defval2 if it did not have any rows.
