PATH problems

In reference to RUCHI's message
I'm not sure I can answer properly, or that what I suggest you haven't
already tried but here goes....
>>>We are running INFORMIX/SE. I have a billing database which has
>>>4gl files in directory /u/ruchi/billing and also the form files.
>>>The files are
>>>growing and I would like to divide them in several directories. So, I
>>>created the following directories and it has following files. I can compile
>>>the modules because I changed the path information. So I am in INVENTORY
>>>directory and I can compile all modules that are in invetory directory but
>>>when I tried to compile the program then it says that /u/ruchi/billing/
>>>inventory/main.4gl not found. But that module is on billing directory.
Are you using the DBPATH variable? And the directory where your programs
are should be in your PATH variable. I don't believe it matters where your
main.4gl program is. You could put it in the inventory directory and then
add /u/ruchi/billing/inventory to your PATH. You would do this in your
shell script calling up the database and 4gl programs by:
load the variable DBPATH to:
DBPATH=/u/ruchi/billing;export DBPATH
# Add to the PATH variable the following directories to search
# for programs to execute
# DBPATH variable dependant on above
PATH=$PATH:$DBPATH/inventory:$DBPATH/priceexport PATH
Then you wouldn't have to have the full path name in all your programs.
>>>So, I did
>>>specify the path to find this module in billing directory. I like to know
>>>what am I doing wrong? I am very confused. Following are some details of
>>>files structures.
>>>
>>>/u/ruchi/billing has following files
>>>billing.dbs
>>>main.4gl ; this module is main and it calls inventory and price.
>>>
How did you specify the path as above?
Also, you can compile the programs as you have done in the past then
move them to the search path for your programs (inventory, price).
This can get very confusing for anyone, especially with a mix of full path
to programs and database and then other programs dependant on the search
path.
Hope this did more than confuse you more.
