Re: Is Informix v7.23 good?
Posted in 1997
We upgraded from 6.0 to 7.23. Compared to the 6.0 release I'd say it is
more
unstable.
The first problem we had, was an assertion failure, when a certain
select wasissued. The synonyms to a view in a different database seems to confuse
the
optimizer and the instance panics. Setting OPTCOMPIND to 0 solved the
problem.
The second problem we have, is that one of our instances refuses to
accept net
calls and fills the message log with 'can't allocate call structure'.
Restarting the
engine solves the problem. We're just checking, if this problem is
connected with
the tunable kernel parameters.
Performance is another matter. If you don't update statistics regularly,
the
performance is bad, if you do it's really fast.
Concluding, I'd like to add, that there are no major constraints for
updating to 7.23.
All problems can be solved or worked around.
