Temporarily blocking SOCKETS connections

Hi all,
I am wondering what the best method is for temporarily blocking SOCKET
based
connections to my Informix 7.31 Server (running on HP-UX 10.20).
Our application is client/server in that the client is running on
P.C.'s(WIN95/NT) connecting to the IDS 7.31 DB Server.
I have two connection types defined on the Informix Server namely, sockets
and shared-memory - obviously the P.C.'s would be connecting via sockets.
If I want to be able to block access to the Informix Database Server to
these client(P.C.'s) I thought that
it would be a simple matter of commenting out the relevant lines in either
the '/etc/services' or
'$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts' file.
I have included below the relevant connection information from the
'$ONCONFIG', '/etc/services' and
'$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts' files.
Now, I tried commenting out the 'geff1_soc' line from BOTH the
'/etc/services' and '$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts'
(and even bounced the Informix Engine) but the clients(P.C.'s) can still
connect.
How can this be?
Is there another approach that I can take eg. Perhaps there is some way
through the
UNIX OS where I can specify a port (1557 in this case) to be temporarily
disabled?
Here, are the configuration files:
'$ONCONFIG' file (Connection Type)
-------------------------
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,30,NET
NETTYPE soctcp,1,30,CPU
'/etc/services' file
------------------------
geff1_soc 1557/tcp # Finance One Sockets
geff1_shm 1558/tcp # Finance One Shared Memory
'$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts' file
-----------------------------------------------
geff1_soc onsoctcp kenny geff1_soc
geff1_shm onipcshm kenny geff1_shm

Have you tried commenting out the entries in /etc/services ? No idea
whether this would work but check it out - usual disclaimers apply !
