IDS install on Windows
Posted in 2015
A user repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled the Informix Developer's Bundle on Windows 7 (deleting INFORMIXDIR, users/groups and environment variables), yet each new install created an instance named ol_informix1210_2, _3, _4... instead of the default ol_informix1210. Replies suggested leftovers in the Windows registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Informix\\OnLine subkeys) and in %WINDIR%\\system32\\drivers\\etc\\services. The cause was stale port entries in the services file (not visible in Control Panel Services); removing them resolved it.

Hi, I installed Informix Developer's Bundle on a Windows 7 laptop. I uninstalled it, using the Informix uninstall app. I deleted INFORMIXDIR folder, removed the users/groups created by Informix install and removed the environment variables. To me this seams a clean situation. Now when I install again the Developer's Bundle with the option to create of a new instance the instance is ol_informix1210_2. I performed the previous steps a few times and every time the instance is 1 higher: ol_informix1210_3, ol_informix1210_4, ... Where is this "mystery counter" situated so that I can get rid of it and get again the normal ol_informix1210 instance? Thanks.

Look in the windows registry. Art On Jun 18, 2015 7:55 AM, "GUY DILLEN" <guy.dillen@skynet.be> wrote: > Hi, > > I installed Informix Developer's Bundle on a Windows 7 laptop. Guy: Check your: %WINDOWS%\\\\system32\\\\drivers\\\\etc\\\\services file. The subsequent installations of IDS have most likely left an entry there for the IDS TCP port(s). Also look I the Windows registry just in case the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\SOFTWARE\\\\Informix\\\\OnLine does not contain any subkeys with the old numbered server instances. Best regards, Martin M. Guy: Sorry I had meant: "Also look I the Windows registry just in case the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\SOFTWARE\\\\Informix\\\\OnLine "contains" any subkeys with the old numbered server instances. If this is the case delete the subkeys or the entire Informix key." Best regards, Martin M. Martin, Indeed in the "services" file the entries of the previous instances were still there. Apparently you have really to look in the file and not by using the Control Panel and looking at services, because the latter doesn't show any Informix services after uninstalling Informix. Anyway many thanks. Guy
That's expected. The "services" in Windoze control panel refer to local apps running on the computer. The "services" in the services file refer to network ports that can be used for different applications. For instance, doom (port 666) is in there by default, even though very few computers actually serve multiplayer Doom games. --EEM > -----Original Message----- > From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of > GUY DILLEN > Sent: Thursday, June 18, 2015 12:24 PM > To: ids@iiug.org > Subject: Re: RE: IDS install on Windows [35289] > > Martin, > > Indeed in the "services" file the entries of the previous instances > were still there.
