backups -Reply

Hi Daniel
This may or may not assist in your problem.
There is a requirement for ontape to use temporary
table space. What's more it has to be contiguous.
If you have a ton of space but a very busy system
using up bits and pieces of it all over the place,
then ontape can fail complaining about insufficient
temp space, although you might report a heap of it
available. I have gotten around this on my (much
smaller) system by setting DBSPACETEMP to a
non-volatile data space for the purposes of the
backup, IE scripting ontape -s.

Customer is running ontape -s l 0 on HP/UX 10.2
using 7.2 informix. They say they are getting errors
from backup that there is not enough temporary
table space.??? I have not heard of any
requirements for ontape that it needs large
amounts of temp dbspace?? There database is
about 100GIG and has 20GIG temp dbspace.
