I experienced a problem that I think
would be helpfull to some of you.
We have Informix IDS 7.31.UC2 installed
on two rs6000 running AIX 4.2.1.
We had an error restoring from all our
ontape level 0, we always got this
error:
function ioctl failed code -1 errno 5
Physical restore failed - function
failed code -1 errno 5
Program over.
Fortunatly, there's a workaround by
doing a dd of the tape on disk, change
your tape device to that dd file and
then run your ontape -r. This is
assuming you have enough free disk space
to write that dd file which is at about
the size of the database.
That problem is known to Informix and in
order to solve your problem you need to
install the patch included in IDS
7.31.UC2X3.

Jean:
Another easy workaround is to specific the TAPEDEV as
hostname:device_name. Assume you are on a machine called infx and the
tape device is /dev/rmt/0. Then you can set the onconfig paramater
TAPEDEV to infx:/dev/rmt/0. This will work around the problem.
