May be the backup tape was bad? Did you check the tape?

Subject: Backups terminated by client
Hi All,
Curious to know what causes this error. In the online log files they say
that the archives where aborted by client. Is there something that happens
on the database end that would cause an archive to abort from the client. I
know that if someone kills the ontape process which only user informix or
root can do then I know that it will abort the archive obviously.
Is there something that I am missing from this?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lloyd AJ Wilson.
There is nothing wrong with the tape ... because if I run the level 0 backup
off hours I have no problems what so ever with the tape.
Normally, there is a backup that runs at noon when noone is in the office to
use the database. Our backups normally take around 1.5 hours to 2.0 hours
to complete.
It could be that when users get back from their lunch and login to the
database and put some load on it ... this could be causing some problems
(excess load at one time) .... but I know that I never have a problem
running a backup when users are on the system. I also run one at night for
those who say run a backup at night to solve your problem. I do this
because we do a lot of testing with our databases and run a lot of
conversions so I do this so that we have good backups and not to much data
has been lost from the deal.
I am running IDS7.3UC5 on Linux 5.2 ... I have yet to upgrade ... but I
don't think that this was a problem with this version. For your info ... we
run our backups through a cron ... Please do not respond with an upgrade and
everything will be fixed kind of deal because I would like to know what the
cause of the problem ... if anyone knows what it is. If this is a bug with
this version then I know I need to upgrade ... but I don't think that this
is a version problem. I could be wrong though.
Thanks,
Lloyd.

I'm not sure if IDS/LE is any different than its HPUX cousins, but a lot
of updating on the system could cause problems with ontape that would
cause it to abort. When ontape is archiving, any updated pages are
stored in the temp space as defined by ONCONFIG. If this temp space
fills up, it will abort your backup.
