I experienced both of these problems. In answer to #1: Check your INFORMIXSQLHOSTS parameter. If, like me, you are accessing Informix from a PC, you want to leave this paramter blank. I mistakenly put my servername as the value for INFORMIXSQLHOSTS. This causes ilogin to read your SQLhosts file on your server (which it shouldn't need to do.). Give this a shot. As for problem #2: Two possibilities: Make sure that your INFORMIXDIR value is set properly, and also that you have installed all the necessary Informix client software. I think, during Informix client installation, you have the option to leave some things out. Try installing it with everything checked, then you can try leaving things out later once you get it to work.
