I have head that Informix uses Sun platform for developing. It means that Sun is the best _supported_ platform. -----Eredeti 'zenet----- Felad': Dirk Moolman [mailto:dirkm@reach.co.za] Elk'ldve: 2000. november 17. 9:07 C'mzett: informix-list T'rgy: FW: Best platform for Informix? HP9000/HP-UX is well supported by Informix, and very reliable hardware. Alleged use of Sun by Informix must be largely irrelevant anyway. They typically do the bleeding edge delivieries for the largest or most important market places, and that Includes the big three. I wouldn't put a piece of tissue paper between them all, and many of the progressively smaller platforms. I guess the timeliness of the delivery from Informix depends on demand, the likelyhood of that platform staying supported depends on market share, and the quality of the performance depends on the quality of the new hardware and it's C compilers, hey? Consider as well, ol' SCO for the smaller customers following behind, if you can bring yourself to install SCO. Personally, we've had no trouble with Intel/SCO for many bread-n-butter customers; in fact, HP has given us slightly more irritation with the previous generation of HP/UX. Intel boards are cheap as chips (pun intended), you can get the latest and greatest SCSI speeds etc. If you think SCO is the work of the devil, but Linux was brought to earth by heavenly angels, then get Linux on Intel. Same cost (or less) and I think most of us know by now that Linux is cracking along fine. Hell - it's even getting as slow to boot as the others, so it MUST be a real O/S by now! PS - Windows NT sucks as a server. For any job... Pound for pound, the NT can't support 20% the users as UNIX on exactly the same hardware.
