Does anybody know if I can use the function "load" to update a bynary field with a file in a remote filesystem using Informix 7.3 and SCO unix? Thank Marco

It depends on precisely what you mean by UPDATE, but I think the answer is No pretty much regardless. The LOAD commands only insert data; to update data, you need something else. The LOAD commands also require that the data for the blob is physically in the load data file; you cannot reference an external file. You can investigate whether the UPDBLOB command which is part of the SQLCMD package available from the IIUG will do what you need. And the SQLUPLOAD command, also part of the SQLCMD package, may do some of what you want. However, unless I've forgotten that I did it, you cannot reference external files from even SQLUPLOAD, though it is (or should be) on the list of things to do. -- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (Jonathan.Leffler@Informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v1.00.PC1 -- http://www.perl.com/CPAN "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"
