Hi all,
Many thanks to all of you who either posted to the news group or sent
Email to me personally with comments and advice.
I know that it is usual to post a detailed summary of the responses I have
had for the benefit of the group but unfortunately due to pressure of time
I cannot do so on this occasion.
But to summarise, most responses have hinted that use of dbimport and
dbexport would be my best bet should such utilities exist with the version
of Informix being used. Otherwise, my proposed plan of events for
unloading, deleting, creating and loading the database seemed to get the
seal of approval. Some respondents took up the issue of file system
fragmentation within the Unix environment. As I am Unix aware I understand
the issues that need to be considered if disk fragmentation were a problem
that was affecting performance. For anyone who knows AIX ( IBM's Unix )
you will know what excellent facilities are available to assist with
dealing in disk/file system fragmentation.
Once again, many thanks to all those who replied.
Cheers, Ian.
