RE: Informix vs. PowerBuilder

Juan, Wow, did this message ever bring back old nightmares! I believe I had the same problem. You could verify this by checking the contents of your online.log file and telling me if you see a message talking about shm_mt_alloc causing an assertation failure. If you do, the read on... The problem was due to a bug in some version of OnLine and SE (sorry, I don't remember the bug number but I'm certain that version 5 had the bug). Informix expects passwords to be encrypted to a certain maximum length. But, some flavors of Unix have an optional super-encrypted software installed that causes the password to be encrypted beyond the expected length. As a patch, we changed the user passwords to be something short - typically less than 8 characters. The only fix I know is to upgrade to a newer version of the engine. If this is your problem, let me know and I'll dig up the specific bug number and the earliest version where the bug was fixed. --Craig (craig@chemistry.utah.edu) }I wonder if somebody could help me with a problem I have }using PB vs. Informix. } }I am working with PowerBuilder Enterprice 4.0 }Informix OnLine 5 and I-Net 5.0 }Unix on a Unisys machine } }Sometimes and sudenly, I-net reports the error num. }-457 that means something like "The server have }stoped all process" and my PB aplication is }disconected from informix. }This error happen very often - so you can imagine what }the users are saying! } }(Other error like "To many hosts variables are passed to the server" }were also reported, but we have avoided it using a tric in PB!) } }Trying to solve the -457 error we have made the changes in the }system parameters (Unix and Informix): } }Informix Parameters: } SPINCNT } }Unix Parameters: } The ones related with semafores } The ones related with shared memory segments size } }No we are thinking of changing some parameters related with }sockets in Unix. }
