It's really difficult to tell from your information where the problem actually is. We really need to know the size of your buffer and LRU min/max. However, I agree that your checkpoints should be running arround 300 seconds apart. If they are occuring closes together, then there is a high probability that your physical log is too small. It might be worth it to double or even triple the size of it. However, you are not going to decrease the length of the checkpoint by increasing the size of the physical log. Quite honestly, I don't think that I could stand a 45 second long checkpoint, unless it was strictly a data warehous. There are ways to decrease the length of time that the checkpoint takes, mainly by decreasing the LRU min/max. In places having a large buffer, I've seen some sites setting this as low as 1/2. I'm not really recomending this, but if your system is being used primarly as an OLTP system, you might want to check this out. A couple of other things to consider. Check to see if you are using buffered or unbuffered loging. In most systems, buffered logging will greatly improve performance, although there is a risk of data not being properly logged in the event of a system crash. Madison Pruet
