Nick, I have been working with New Era for almost two months now. I attended the New Era pilot training course, and I prepared a demonstration for a multi- million dollar deal with it. I would hardly consider myself anything remotely close to a guru yet, but I believe I have the fundamental concepts of New Era down. I have worked with PowerBuilder, and there is a big difference between the two products. So far, my luck has been very good with the product. I've noticed some minor oddities with it, and needs some improvement with some of it's controls vs. a PowerBuilder/SQLWindows, but nothing by any means significant. I'm sure these will be ironed out quickly. New Era Strong Points: 1. Object Oriented 2. Performance 3. Quick Development(coding of database work done for you mostly) 4. Fairly Stable New Era Weak Points: 1. Some controls not aware of database yet, ie radio button doesn't automatically know and set itself to Male/Female based on a M/F flag in DB like Power Builder does. 2. Industry Acceptance?? (I'd like to know how it is selling!) Post your questions, and if I can't answer them, I'm sure someone else out there might be able to. I will also respond to the whole group if the interest is there... Pat Binkley Senior Consultant Asix, Inc.
